Differential diagnosis of the red eye in adults (ES-8020)
This topic covers assessment, diagnosis and management of red eyes in adults, including conjunctivitis, blepharitis, episcleritis, trauma, infection, uveitis, scleritis and acute glaucoma.

Learning Objectives:

  • Be able to assess and formulate a differential diagnosis in a person with a red eye
  • Know the common causes of red eye and those conditions that should not be missed
  • Know the management principles for the common causes of red eye
This education program is developed and delivered for the University of Queensland, by University of Queensland (UQ) Health Insitu. UQ Health Insitu is the lifelong learning arm of the University of Queensland Faculty of Health Sciences.

Expert Presenter:
Associate Professor Graham Lee

Associate Professor Graham Lee completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1991 at the University of Queensland, a Master of Medical Science in Ophthalmology in 1994 and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology in 2000. He returned from the United Kingdom in 2001, having completed a Glaucoma Fellowship at Birmingham and Midlands Eye Centre and a Cataract, Cornea and Refractive Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. In 2005, he was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Queensland for his published works on anterior segment disease. Currently, Graham is the Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Queensland and Director of Ophthalmology at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Graham has a keen interest in teaching and research, and has more than 150 peer-reviewed published scientific articles, book chapters and abstracts at national and international meetings.
