This unit contains a presentation by ophthalmologist Dr Peter Cranstoun on the assessment and management of diabetic eye disease.

Learning Objectives:
- Know the risk factors for diabetic retinopathy
- Understand the impact of diabetes on the eye, including pathophysiology and clinical signs and symptoms
- Be able to screen for, assess and diagnose a person with diabetic retinopathy
- Understand the management principles for diabetic eye disease
- Develop a pro-active approach to early detection of diabetic retinopathy and long-term compliance with management

Expert Presenter:
Dr Peter Cranstoun
Peter Cranstoun graduated in medicine from the University of Queensland in 1978 & finished his training in ophthalmology in 1985.
He has been in private practice at Strathpine in Brisbane since then & between 1986 & 2006 was a VMO at the Mater Hospital.
He is visiting consultant at the Paediatric Low Vision Clinic at Buranda & has an ongoing interest in paediatric ophthalmology & medical retina especially diabetic eye disease.
